      Great corn burritos & salsa!

This little cafe is tucked away in the corner of the William L Morris Chevy dealership in Fillmore. Not much parking but it’s pretty small inside also, with seating for 16 or so. We made our own parking spot next to some used cars & no one bothered us. The menu was standard, “American,” breakfast & lunch stuff but she told us they had corn burritos (order of 2) & tacos for $2.50/ea, Someone there is from the same family that owned Margaret’s Cocina in Fillmore so if you ever ate there you will recognize the taste. They are decent size (at least the same size as Foster’s Freeze) w/plenty of cheese & beans & their salsa is absolutely delicious! Very fresh w/a few (stewed?) tomato chunks but mostly smooth, not watery & nice onion & cilantro flavor with just the right tang & mild heat. We ate there so she also gave us a small bowl of chips & brought us another salsa bowl for the corn burritos. The ground beef taco was good too but hard to eat as it was more like a tostada, loaded fat with lettuce & cheese in a home made crispy shell that arrived already split in half. I overheard that there were other taco meat options & possibly chile rellenos on occasion but she said they were out today. We were there around 12:30 & they close at 2pm & are closed Sunday’s also. I’ll definitely be stopping by every time I drive through Fillmore now.

Let me just say that back in the day when the corn burrito became famous, 50’s and beyond- The best two places in Ventura County was ‘The Tip Top'(where Margarets Cocina stands today and The We Three- both on Highway 126 in Fillmore-for 50 years I have tried to copy ‘how they did it-have not been able to bring that amazing taste to mine- I can make them–but something is missing-could be it’s being 15, 16,17 and having the freedom to go to these drive-in’s and hang out-I don’t know I will never forget how they tasted– Fosters Freeze is good, Tony’s Burrito Hut’s are good-but that special something is missing ):
